Summer 2019 in Morzine and Les Gets is set to be a scorcher!

Despite writing this from a currently VERY snowy Morzine, it’s never too early to turn our thoughts to the long, sunny summer days which will be here in the blink of an eye. Every year there are incredible activities and events on offer in and around the Portes du Soleil that can help make your holiday to this part of the world extra special, and 2019 is no exception. Amongst a host of fantastic events, this year we’re lucky enough to welcome back the famous Harley Days festival and also the mountain bike world cup, it’s going to be a brilliant summer!

JUNE

To start it all off this year, we welcome back the popular Morzine Haut Chablis Road bike race. Cyclists come from all over the world each year to take part in this popular event. There are two races to choose from, a shorter 105km race and a tougher 155km challenge. Taking place on the 16th June, riders will tackle some of the most famous cols in the area including the Col de Joux Plane.

If you fancy an event with a difference then why not head to Les Gets on the 22nd June for the Tractor Forestry competition. Sounds a bit bizarre but if you like petrol, loud engines and powerful machinery then this could be something for you! 15 massive machines battle it out to be crowned the strongest and therefore king of the tractors!

One of the busiest and most popular weekends of the Morzine calendar is back. The famous Pass’portes du Soleil mountain biking event is happening over the 28th, 29th and 30th June this year and promises to be another amazing weekend. We have brilliantly located self catered properties in the centre of Morzine and Les Gets that will make amazing bases for you if you want to get involved this year or are planning to come back.

JULY

If you like a challenge and don’t mind getting down and dirty then the popular Spartan weekend is back in Morzine on the 5th, 6th and 7th July this year. There are a number of different races to get involved in from sprint distances to longer endurance events and races for the children as well. You’ll throw yourself through icy cold water, over obstacles and have your strength tested to the limit! What isn’t there to enjoy? Could you be the next ultimate Spartan?

This year we’re pleased to welcome the exciting and lively Harley days weekend back to Morzine. The roar of motorbikes will echo around the mountains on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th July this year. With it comes fantastic concerts, displays of motorbiking prowess and plenty of stalls and shops selling Harley merchandise. Supertramp’s Roger Hodgson is headlining the festival this year so expect a weekend of rock, petrol fumes and brilliant live music. We are thrilled to announce that the UCI Mountain bike world cup 2019 is coming to Les Gets this year and will be competing with Harley Days for your attention as it’s taking place on the 13th and 14th July. Watch some amazing displays of downhill biking as the best riders from around the world head into town for the event. Why not stay at one of our Les Gets chalets to make sure you’re right on the doorstep of all the action.

Over the last few years, we’ve been lucky enough to have both the Tour de France and the Etape du Tour (the public’s stage of the TDF) passing through Morzine or very close to it. And this year is no exception. On the 21st July, road bikers from around the world will head to Albertville (which is just an hour and a half from Morzine) to ride in the famous race. On the 27th July the professional peloton will race the same stage. You can easily head from Morzine to Albertville or Val Thorens to watch them battle it out before they head to Paris for the final day of the tour on the 28th July. If you’re a keen biker, you could head to Morzine first to acclimatise and get some mountain training in before the big event. Make sure you’re ready for your Alpine challenge!

AUGUST

Talking of challenges, trail runners listen up! The Trail des Hauts Forts, one of the most gruelling trail races is back. Runners descend on Morzine over the 10th and 11th of August for the popular running weekend. Test your endurance and fitness on one of 3 courses that take you from Morzine into the mountains to the finish line high in Avoriaz. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere at this event and the views and scenery as you run through the Alps can’t be beaten.

SEPTEMBER

The 1st of september sees the return of Morzine’s triathlon. New last year, this fantastic event sees residents, tourists, experts and beginners come together to swim and run around the lake and cycle up part of the famous Col de Joux Vert. It promises to be a huge success again this year.
