Snowboarding In The Portes Du SoleilThe Portes Du Soleil is arguably one of the leading ski areas in terms of catering for snowboarders and skiers, for more information on skiing and prices for board rental and lift passes in the area please see our specific skiing page.Firstly you are hard pushed to find a button lift or T bar, secondly the area is just so incredibly huge with over 650 km of piste and really varied terrain from the gentle tree lined runs of Les Gets and Morzine to the more challenging steeper runs in Avoriaz and over into Chatel, Les Crosets-Champoussin and the other Swiss resorts. A real plus is that there is lots of off piste that is easily accessible from then lifts and relatively safe, with great routes through the trees and with natural drops and jumps. Keen to encourage boarders to have fun safely the Portes Du Soleil has also created lots of snow zones which are patrolled but unpisted, perfect for those blue sky powder days! ![]() Freestyle BoardersFreestyle boarders looking to catch some air look no further... the Portes Du Soleil has with 9 snowparks for all levels. With rails, tables, walls, a big air superpipe, raised bends, freestyle airbags to safely practise those jumps on, there's plenty to keep all riders smiling. In Avoriaz rookie boarders should start off playing in the Trashers snowpark, then progress onto La Chapelle snowpark while advanced riders should check out the Arare snowpark. Below find a brief description of each park for more details check out, Avoriaz Snowparks. ![]() |
Snowparks In The Portes Du SoleilAvoriazTrashers was originally designed for kids
aged 5- 12 yr olds. This is the only park of it's kind in Europe
specifically geared towards the younger generation. This is also a
great park for beginners of all ages with mini jumps, kicks, small
tables, etc. The park is 400m long and can be accessed by the Trashers
lift right next to the apartment buildings in La Falaise zone.La Chapelle is located in the main area of Avoriaz, under the Express Proclou lift, and is suitable for all levels. The park is 500m long and about 100m wide. Riders will enjoy 6 tables total in the park : 3 marked in green for beginners and 3 marked in blue for the more advanced. There are also rails, hips and boxes with jumps found in three rows. The park is accessible by the draglift of the Chapelle. ![]() The Stash snowpark was developed by Jake Burton himself of Burton Snowboards. This is the first eco-friendly superpark in all of Europe and the 2nd in the world after California. The Stash is 1.3 km long with 470 m descent and endless natural wooden elements to ride. Trees bent like rainbows, wooden tables, wooden rails, rock obstacles and more. Hidden routes lie at the forest edge which lead to the secret log cabin where you can carve your own message – chances are you won't find this cool new riders' retreat on your first (second or third) run down ! Arare started in 1993, is traditionally for more confirmed riders. The park is 800m long and 80m wide. Riders will find rails, tables of varied lengths, wall, hips and a pipe. The park changes and advances as the season goes on so make sure to give a test run daily even if the park might look the same as the day before. In the Arare Snowpark helmets are obligatory!!! The Superpipe, is found in the Arare area and, due to it's super size, is for confirmed riders. The Superpipe is 120m long and between 6 and 6.5m high walls. The pipe is located opposite the Prodain lift. There is also a half pipe for beginners to practise on. |
